What counts as the school not following the IEP?+−
When services, minutes, accommodations, or supports written in the IEP are skipped, delayed, or changed without the proper process, that is a failure to implement. Keep dated notes of what was promised versus what happened.
What should I do first?+−
Document dates, classes, and missed supports. Email the case manager and campus admin with specific examples. Ask in writing when the IEP will be followed as written.
Should I request an IEP or ARD meeting?+−
Yes, if the problem continues. Ask for a meeting to review implementation, progress data, and any needed changes. Bring your documentation.
Is this the same as disagreeing with the IEP itself?+−
Not always. Implementation problems mean the written plan is not happening. Content disagreements are about what the plan should say. You can raise both, but keep them clear in writing.
When should I get outside help?+−
If the school ignores written requests, progress keeps dropping, or discipline is escalating, get advocacy support sooner rather than later.
